Creating Common Ground

The Creating Common Ground project will examine three parks in the Westlake/MacArthur Park neighborhood. The parks are:

MacArthur Park

Lafayette Park

Golden Age Park

This study examines the similarities and differences between low-income senior's’ and youths’ experiences of public space in the Westlake/MacArthur Park neighborhood, both before and after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Through this study, we hope to provide guidance for creating public spaces that are not only equitable and cross-generational. We also want to consider the uneven impact of Covid-19 on low-income seniors and youth who are already disproportionately impacted by the virus due to their socio-economic status, age, and lack of safe and easily accessible outdoor public space.
